The Blankets Creek Family
The Blankets Creek Family
Founded in 2014, the Georgia Cycling Association (GCA) was formed to bring organized mountain biking to the youth of Georgia. The Youth Mountain Bike Program uses the healthy sport of mountain biking as a catalyst for youth development. While the sport takes place on a bike, the program has a far-reaching impact that is felt in community engagement, personal growth, and connecting with other students. This program isn’t just about developing athletic skills, it is about developing responsible young adults and is open to ALL riders of all skill levels. Starting with a just a handful of teams, the GCA has grown to over 80 teams and more than 1000 student-athletes across the state of Georgia.
The Blankets Creek Composite MTB Team was established shortly after the the founding of the GCA to bring the program to the local youth. Starting with just a handful of student-athletes and coaches, the Blankets Creek Family of teams has grown to 6 teams and over 100 riders and coaches. Serving the youth of Cherokee County, the teams also include student-athletes from the Cass High School district in Bartow County, and the Kell and Sprayberry High School districts in Cobb County.
While the focus of the program is on developing life long healthy habits and skills in our youth, the Blankets Creek Family of teams has a history of developing strong mountain bike racers that have not only found success in the school and local race series, but have gone on to compete successfully at the collegiate, national, and international stages, as well.
We are an INCLUSIVE group! The sport of mountain biking isn't just for the boys! The Blankets Creek Family has had (and currently has) MANY strong young women that give the boys a run for their money on the trails. We welcome ALL riders and are committed to encouraging diversity in ethnicity, gender, orientation, and skill level.
Regardless of whether our student-athletes want to reach elite levels of racing, or just want to have fun, our goal is to develop a life-long love of mountain biking and the trail systems. You won't see many people aged 60+ playing football, but you will see them every weekend riding their bikes on the trails!
