Trail Experience
Trail Experience
We understand that all athletes are not the same.
Not all of the riders on our teams have a dream or goal of racing and chasing medals, they just want to ride bikes on the trails with their friends.
THAT'S OK!
Our primary focus is to BE SAFE and HAVE FUN! Our practices focus on skill development, and our coaches are trained on how to demonstrate and coach the proper (and SAFE) techniques to navigate the various obstacles that a rider will encounter on the trail.
Regardless of the skill level of the student-athlete, our season will start with several practices spending time doing 'field work'. There, in a controlled environment, the riders will spend time developing and honing the basic skills that are the foundation to the more advanced skills needed to navigate trail obstacles. These skills include:
Proper riding position (Attack position)
Braking
Shifting
Cornering
Wheel lifts
Drops
Then, we'll do the fun part: hit the trails! We'll pause at various features on the trails for the coaches to demonstrate how to SAFELY navigate them, and let the riders practice negotiating them with feedback from the coaches. Depending on the skill level of the riders, by the end of the season they will be tackling the advanced trails SAFELY and CONFIDENTLY, which equals HAVING FUN!
