Etowah High School
Established in 2022, The Etowah High School MTB Team serves all student-athletes of Etowah High School. Current students and rising 6th graders for the 2024-2025 school year that will attend E. T. Booth Middle School are also eligible to join the team.
The Blankets Creek Family of teams all practice together twice a week (Monday and Thursday evenings) which allows us to place the riders into groups of similar riding abilities from across all six teams. It is a highlight of the coaches every year to watch close bonds and friendships between riders from different schools grow from the common ground of wanting to ride bikes. We'll often see the riders on the trails during the off-season just get together to ride the trails. No racing, no competition, just having fun with friends in the great outdoors.
The practices will rotate weekly between Blankets Creek and the Olde Rope Mill trails. The individual teams may occasionally have another practice on the weekends for some 'team time', and those are typically held at other trail systems.
Ryan grew up in Colorado and as a kid rode BMX. He was introduced to mountain biking through my college roommate. He had a few mountain bikes but no one to ride with so, he went out on a ride one day, loved it and never looked back. Bought his first MTB the next day. His favorite thing about coaching is the development of our rider's confidence and technical ability throughout the season.
Starsha grew up in Waleska, GA. Throughout her school years, she was a long distance track and cross country runner, and coached a local youth track team for a few years before 2020 'shut it down'. She was introduced to team mountain biking in 2021 when her son decided he was not interested in running. While it broke her heart, she signed him up and he started racing as a freshman. Now, four years later, she is a new addition to the MTB coaching staff as the Team Director, She is excited to see her son racing as a senior this year, and her daughter joining the team as a sixth grader. Her favorite thing about being on the team is seeing the pride that the kids have in themselves when they accomplish hard things, and loves the connections that her son and family have made over time.
