Blankets Creek Homeschool Team
Blankets Creek Homeschool Team
The Blankets Creek Homeschool MTB Team serves the homeschooled student-athletes that reside within Cherokee County as well as those that live within the Cass High School, Kell High School, and Sprayberry High School districts. Homeschool students that will be 6th through 12th graders for the 2024-2025 school year are eligible to join the team.
The Blankets Creek Family of teams all practice together twice a week (Monday and Thursday evenings) which allows us to place the riders into groups of similar riding abilities from across all six teams. It is a highlight of the coaches every year to watch close bonds and friendships between riders from different schools grow from the common ground of wanting to ride bikes. We'll often see the riders on the trails during the off-season just get together to ride the trails. No racing, no competition, just having fun with friends in the great outdoors.
The practices will rotate weekly between Blankets Creek and the Olde Rope Mill trails. The individual teams may occasionally have another practice on the weekends for some 'team time', and those are typically held at other trail systems.
Matt relocated to Georgia in 2000 and made his home in Marietta for over 20 years before moving to Canton in 2021. He picked up mountain biking in 2015 after a car accident forced him to stop running. He has been married to his wife Wendy for 20 years and has two boys, Cooper and Brody. While Cooper is committed to football, his younger son Brody started on the Blankets Creek Homeschool team as a 6th grader in 2021. Matt has coached many different sports teams over the years and is passionate about positively influencing the next generation. When he isn’t mountain biking, you can find Matt and his family in their RV on a fun adventure.
Mike, his wife of 21 years, Ann, and two boys, Bryce and Brooks, lived, worked, and homeschooled while exploring the US in their off-grid solar-powered RV for six years. They lived in 43 of the 50 states so far and have experienced almost 60 state and national parks. They recently settled down in Canton, GA and got involved at Blankets Creek. The boys started mountain biking out west in 2019 and Mike raced back in his college days and worked at the local bike shop. They are a family of health nuts and foodies that love to mountain bike, rock climb, snowboard, hike, paddle board, camp out and explore! Mike is a Certified High-Performance Coach, Eagle Scout, Appalachian Trail Thru-Hiker, and Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts. Mike is excited about helping produce resilient leaders through the sport of mountain biking while having fun doing it.
